We teach students aged 5 years old to adult. Beginner to advanced (college level). Lessons typically meet weekly for 30 minute lessons on the same day and time. Longer lessons (45 minute or 60 minute) are available for more advanced students — please inquire if you think a longer lesson is necessary.
It is required to have a violin, viola, or cello for practice. We strongly recommend renting an instrument for young students, because as they grow the size of instrument will change. For example, violin sizes range 4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16, and 1/32! See the following chart for an example on how to size, but you do not need to do this on your own! Our teachers can help you properly size your instrument or any retailer (see links on this page) will also help you with the correct size.
We rent some instruments, but you can also visit Encore Strings located about 15 minutes South of our studios at 65th and Binford (US37). A typical rental will cost anywhere from $30 to $80 per month depending on size and quality of instrument.
It is important to select the correct instrument size so that playing is as easy and comfortable as possible.
Use the chart to measure the player and select the right instrument with confidence.
Using a tape measure, find the distance between the left-hand palm and the player’s neck. Ensure that the hand is fully extended and the arm is perpendicular to the body. For players in between sizes choose the smaller size.
